Earlier this year, Formula 1 rejected Andretti Global’s bid to enter the sport in 2026. Despite this rejection, the team has not shifted their focus. They went on to open their new Silverstone base which is meant to serve as their Formula 1 home. They are also receiving support from their country.
Twelve Congressmen recently wrote a letter to the owners of Formula 1’s commercial rights, Liberty Media demanding justification for rejecting Andretti’s bid to enter F1 in 2026. This could help speed things along for the American team as they look to enter Formula 1.
US Congress stands behind Andretti Global
Given that Formula 1 is one of the most popular sports in the world, any country would want an all-American team on the grid. Although Haas is an American team, their engines and a few other parts are supplied by Ferrari, an Italian Constructor.
Andretti on the other hand is looking to enter the sport with Cadilac as their power unit manufacturer. This means Andretti will be the only All-American team on the grid if they were to enter in 2026. The 12 Congressmen who have signed the letter addressed to Liberty Media demand justification as to why Andretti’s bid was rejected. Here are the key concerns of the Congressmen:
Under what authority does FOM proceed to reject admission of Andretti Global?
What is the rationale for FOM’s rejection, especially with respect to Andretti Global and their partner, GM?

The Congressmen have also mentioned that they expect a response from Liberty Media by 3rd May at the latest.
This letter has come just in time for the Miami Grand Prix where Andretti is scheduled to have a meeting with the FOM regarding their bid to enter F1 in 2026. The American team will be hoping to convince the FOM to reconsider their bid. They are spending millions of dollars hoping that they will be approved to enter the sport in 2026.
