Last year, Adrian Newey signed a contract extension to stay with Red Bull for “years to come”. However, in recent days, there have been several reports suggesting that he will be leaving the team at the end of the year.
Even before the 2024 season started, a power struggle emerged within Red Bull between Christian Horner and Helmut Marko. During this struggle, an allegation of inappropriate behaviour was made against Horner by an unidentified female Red Bull employee. Since then, the civil war within the teams seems to have gone to extremes.
Adrian Newey wants out of Red Bull
According to sources, Newey has already decided to part ways with the team. He is not happy about the differences between Christian Horner and Helmut Marko. If this struggle continues, Newey might be compelled to take sides. But seems like the British car designer wants no part in this.
He is expected to announce his departure from the team in the next few days. But if he is leaving Red Bull, where will he go?
It is no secret that Ferrari has been trying to get Adrian Newey to join the team for a long time. Although the timing was never right before, things could fall in place this time. If he is able to join the team by next year, it would be perfect as Ferrari will be looking to build a new car for the 2026 season.
Another team interested in signing Adrian Newey is Aston Martin. They have made a deal with Honda, who will supply the team with power units from the 2026 season. Newey already has worked with Honda during his time with Red Bull. There is no doubt that Aston Martin and the Japanese manufacturers would love to have the best car designer in F1 on their team.

Newey has previously opened up about wanting to work with Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. If he joins Ferrari, he will get to work with Lewis Hamilton. On the other hand, if he joins Aston Martin, he will get to work with Fernando Alonso. There is no doubt that Adrian has 2 extremely good options for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. However, things are still unsure regarding his contract with Red Bull.
Officially, his contract commits him to Red Bull until the end of the 2025 season. However, there could be an exit clause that could allow him to exit the team. Otherwise, a huge buyout fee will have to be paid to Red Bull. Considering the value of Newey, either one of the teams will be happy to pay the fee.
